RelayThon-The Mocktail

In the pursuit of growth—whether in a surgical theatre, a corporate office, or at home—we often find ourselves at a crossroads of methodology. We ask ourselves: Is this my journey alone, or are we in this together? The truth is that life is rarely one or the other; it is a sophisticated blend of two distinct types of races: the Relay and the Marathon.

A relay race is the ultimate manifestation of teamwork. Here, the track is shared, but the effort is subdivided. In a specialized field—like surgery or a corporate workplace—growth is never the result of a single "Hercules" attempting to carry the burden of the world. It is the result of systems.

Trust is the Baton which isn’t built overnight; it is forged through consistent effort and practice.

It needs empathy, to understand the team-mates. Forgiveness, when the team-mates stumble. A large heart, to accommodate differences. Focus, as a unit. It needs an ability to listen, more than the expertise to preach.

Ample opportunity to become a credit giver as opposed to becoming a credit stealer.

The roles are divided, but the glory at the finish line belongs to everyone!

In contrast, marathon is a solo journey where the primary competitor is the person in the mirror.

It needs endurance, making you go beyond self-doubting, when the path feels lonely.

It tests your integrity in the dark; training for a marathon requires absolute honesty. There are no shortcuts; you must be fair in your preparation because, on the track, there is no team to lean on—only your own resilience.

You aren’t building a system. You are actually building your soul

Which path should one choose? The reality is that we do not have the luxury of choice; we must master both.

Life is a "mocktail" of these two disciplines.

Relay race + Marathon = RelayThon

We are all on our own marathon, trying to understand ourselves and move ahead. Simultaneously, we are constantly engaged in relay races. Sometimes your partner is your spouse; other times, it is your colleague in the workplace.

Balancing the solo endurance of the marathon with the collaborative trust of the relay race is an art. When we master this balance, we create stronger systems for growth—not just for our own selves, but for the teams and families we serve.

RelayThon is the art of building relationship with one’s own self as well as with others!
